CATEA RSS Feeds and Web Development
2006-present
Center for Assistive Technology and Environmental Access / Assistive Technology Department

Since May 2006, I've been working with Robert Todd in the Assistive Technology Department of CATEA to create and research accessible web applications. I started working on a project to integrate CATEA's main database with the ability to make available internally uploaded news, articles and events through RSS feeds hosted on the CATEA website. The feeds are broken down into categories relating to CATEA project, ICF disability and non-ICF accessibility-related topics. When CATEA employees wish to submit an item to one or more of our feeds, all they have to do is log onto the system administration, upload the item, and check boxes corresponding to the feed categories in which they wish the item to be included.

Much thought went into trying to keep the feeds localized, non-repetitive and accessible. The Assistive Technology feed was then included on the assistive tech dot net home page so that current news and event items could be easily updated by anyone associated with the project. Here is the link to the CATEA feeds page. As the project has just gotten underway, many categories have yet to be filled with content by my CATEA colleagues. Currently, I am doing research on accessible web applications including feeds, podcasts and blogs and helping to develope a "Blog on Accessible Blogs".
