Still Life: Small Fires
Installation at Gallery 100, Woodruff Arts Center
2004
This video is a mock-up of an installation piece consisting of three LCD displays, headphones, and corresponding DVD players and amps. The displays are mounted on a wall in front of a yellow stripe as depicted. A cycle of twenty-two separate vignettes is staggered on ten-minute loops across the three displays. A lexicon of images foreground the solitary existence of women confined by domesticity. Like any imprisonment, time is a measure of inaction, rather than action. Although the images depicted highlight the plight of women in the Victorian era, these impressions speak to women of all eras.
